Welcome to the home page of Mike Koss

There were two morons standing on the edge of cliff, a Big
moron and a Little moron. The Big moron fell off. Why didn't the
Little moron?
...Because he was a little MORE-ON!
I swear by my life and my love of it that I will never
live for the sake of another man nor ask another man to live for
mine.
I'm a programmer/manager at Microsoft. Some things that
interest me:
- LOGO - I've
been teaching my son's 2nd grade class how to program in
LOGO so that they can experience the joy of writing small
clever programs as well.
- Internet programming - I've just
started playing around with Front Page,
the NCSA
HTTP server, and it's CGI
programming interface. You can find an
excellent guide to HTML
tags at the Microsoft site.
- Tiling - Patterns which fit
magically together to tile the plane fascinate me-
especially the works of M.C. Escher and examples from the
Alhambra in Spain. The background image on this page
comes from a little "shape
sheet" I cooked up in Visio.
- Pattern Languages - After reading Design
Patterns by Gamma et. al., I've become
interested in high level descriptions of programs.
Reading the original book of architectural pattern
languages by Chris Alexander has also raised my interest
in the description of patterns that inform creative
processes in general.
- Evolution and Genetics - I've been
reading several books on genetics, evolutionary theory,
memetics, and artificial life this year.
- Diving - I
love to dive into a pool.
- Flying - Flying has been a hobby of
mine since 1985.
- Books on Tape - I'm
an avid Books on Tape "reader". It's a great
way to read those books that you've always wanted to get
to but have never had the time. Now my hour of cummuting
each day can be enjoyable rather than tedious.
Did you ever notice that the phrase Broken Record can
mean two totally opposite things? On the one hand, a broken
record is something that repeats over and over again. On the
other hand, it is something that has never occurred before in
history. Go figure.
My son Chris has his own home page.
